• PRESS RELEASE

Juba-17/10/2024 – One Citizen Network for Democracy (OCND) is deeply alarmed by the recent brutal killings that have been happening in the last few days across the county. On October 9, 2024, over 24 youths in the Wonduruba Administrative Area and Kulipapa, Ganji Payam, Central Equatoria State were brutally killed and 19 others were injured.
Preliminary media reports indicate that armed men kidnapped young people from their homes at midnight and subsequently murdered them in cold blood. Photographs of the victims widely circulated on social media show young, unarmed civilians who were executed. Just days later, on October 12, 2024, over 20 people were killed in Tonj North County, Warrap State, in an intercommunal violence. The incident left over 30 people injured.
As the One Citizen Network for Democracy, we explicitly condemn this brutal and inhumane act.
Under no circumstances should civilians be subjected to such horror and extrajudicial killings, which violate both national and international laws. This incident represents a grave violation of human rights.
We urgently call upon the national government and the Central Equatoria State authorities to initiate transparent investigations into the killings. The perpetrators must be brought to justice in a competent court of law without delay. Furthermore, we call for peaceful coexistence within the community and urge all parties to exercise restraint and avoid violent actions.

    Ms. Veroncia Agel, Program Director
